I love the story, The Very Hungry Caterpiller by Eric Carle. I was delighted to find a few small pieces of the fabric at one of my favorite fabric shops in town. So I drew out the design on graph paper, loved the look of the design, and started cutting. The more I put the blocks together, the more I found it to be too busy. I tried to calm down the design with some red between the blocks...but still, that did not help. I tried to tone it down by adding the food fabrics...nothing worked. My autistic child loved the quilt. My friend loved the quilt. I found it to be painfully horrible. Well, we took it to the boutique and I prayed it would sell...so I would NEVER have to look at it again! Sad thing was, it was the first quilt to sell. At least it went home to a fellow teacher that also loved the book.
